Letter to Hindustan Times

Read news article-Narora in high-risk category by Charu Sudan Kasturi HT dated 23April 2011. It was pathetic to see the Japan Tsunami on the TV. Genuine fears arose after Chernobyl accident in Russia. There was apprehension and fears in the mind of people after The Fukushima disaster. Equally disturbing but similar is the state of affairs regarding Narora atomic power plant in Bulandshahar district of UP in NCR region. Fortunately or unfortunately we stay within the 30 km radius of the NAPP .Time and again news regarding the safety vis-à-vis NAPP are published in various dailies. The high risk zone of radiation raises fears in the mind of people settled in this zone .The common man is unaware of any safety measure to be taken in case of such emergency. NAPP is the Fourth high risk plant in the world. The news and reports by HT confirms such nightmares of risk projected. Through HT we seek enlightenment and correct emergency measures to be taken and observed in such situation. How common people in core area should meet such crises? Scientists might do their best in such situation but certain steps and co operation is expected from people like us who live in the core area of NAPP.
Awareness and knowledge for such state is inevitable. Though we pray to almighty that such horrible incidents never occur anywhere in the world.

Thanking you

His Excellency,

Good Wishes.

At the onset I would like to introduce myself Rajeev Gurjar. I am a 52 yrs old man and I come from a village upon holy Ganges.

Though I was educated and trained for legal profession but my interests and circumstances compelled me to deviate to new field of Literature. My late father was a leading lawyer of the district.

My grandfather served the British army and later on, was elevated to the position
Of Honorary magistrate. Presently, I live in the district town of Bulandshahar in state of Uttar Pradesh.

My purpose of writing to you is that, about two years ago I wrote a poem on the beautiful people of Serbia—I am convinced about that, indeed Serbians are beautiful people.

Through this letter of mine, I request you to please get my poem published in some literary magazine or publication of Republic Of Serbia in English Language or please get it translated into Serbian Language and please get it published in your country. The poem is on my blog (salamatpur—on—ganges) too, with the same title. The poem is enclosed with this letter for your perusal.

I would be very grateful if your Excellency could help me in getting it published. For this gesture of yours, I shall be grateful and your effort for same will be much appreciated.

I thank you for this little trouble, attention and kindness. Please, if possible do reply through post or email.

Thanking you.

Sincerely Yours.

Rajeev Singh Gurjar
Advocate.

OH! BEAUTIFUL SERBIANS

Oh! Beautiful and enchanting women of Serbia,
Are you brave too like women of India?
Roses, marigolds and jasmines for you and also the tulips,
For you have lovely eyes , rosy cheeks and russet lips .

Though I live in India my heart throbs for land of Serbia,
Oh! Are you as beautiful and curvaceous as women of India?
Love I not only Ganges but also your own Danube River,
Are not the waters of these holy rivers much similar?

As you might know my country is five thousand years old,
And it has mystical, spiritual and magical heart of gold.
If you are proud of your own songs, dress and dances,
Astonishing and bewildering is Indian culture and its branches.

Admire I your lovely bodies and your amazing smiles,
Believe me of my purity and my deep love, free of guiles.
Best and the most charming and lovely women of Serbia,
You will be always welcomed in my incredible land of India.

We are secular, spiritual and singing one billion Indians,
Are not our emotions and smiles like you charming Serbians.
Our land is full of sages, monks and ancient religions;
Charmed you will be when you see our land oh! Serbians.

In ancient times we humans were all barbarians and savages,
Knew only food gathering and hunting and knew not calculation of ages.
In medieval ages the world fought wars for land and religions,
Every men of sword had dreams of forts, palaces, courts and bastions.

Few centuries ago we advanced into reign of renaissance and learning,
Geographical discoveries, revolutions and inventions powered our thinking.
But today are the times of development liberalization and globalization,
Let us be true citizens of the single world and shed our all
parochial inhibitions.

With our old thinking, manners and behavior we will reach no further,
To make the world a better place let us unite and work hard together.
This beautiful age of computers and information has brought the world nearer,
Let us all, men and women promise solemnly to fly the flag of peace and goodwill and be it's bearer.

Oh! Jovana, Jelena, Nikolina,------- et al listen to my words with all heart and mind,
Whatever I speak and write comes from very heart without bane and words kind.
Have you ever felt the pain of poverty, ignorance, sweat tears, toil and ill-health?
This bard of Ganges has a sweet heart like our monks and sages, and no pleasures and no wealth.

Letter to Mr Singh

Hon. Mr. Khuswant Singh,

The whole world knows that you are doyen of Indian English Literature.

I come from a small town – Bulandshahar in UP. I hope you remember me since twice we visited you and heard some real life stories and incidences from different walks of your life. I am your admirer and have been collecting your articles “ With Malice towards One and All,” weekly published in HT. As a token of respect and admiration I ensured that my home made mango pickles and ripe mangoes from my orchard reach you in time.

Though I know you are very old (96 years) and at fag end of life but you have a young heart and a lively one too. After you the world shall miss a noble cheerful soul who is unparallel in literary history. What I regret is my meetings with you was without a camera and have no photographs of you.

I wish you might grant me this last wish of mine – taking a few pictures with you. Few minutes will give us a pleasure and treasure for a life time.

Hope you shall permit me a meeting with yourself, as it suits you, lasting a few minutes to see you and take some snaps. Even my late father had privilege of talking to you on phone before he left for his eternal journey in the year 2003. He too was a great admirer of your writings. He has read, Train to Pakistan and History of Sikhs in two volumes.

With hope I request and humbly petition you for a much cherished meeting even though it might be of great inconvenience to you, which every sensible person can understand..

I even have a letter by you, a post card, saved for posterity in which you have written few words about late Mr. Rajesh Pilot.

Wishing a few minutes with you for taking few photos. I have come all the way from Bulandshahar and staying with my brother- in- law Lt Col H S Chhokar. On both my previous two visits he accompanied us and on both occasions you blessed us with your autographed books which are our treasure now.

I eagerly look forward to hearing from you Mr Singh and I can be contacted at until next 10 days and I must tell you that each day shall arise with a hope of hearing from you granting me the most desired and cherished memory of my life – a meeting with yourself.
